Spring is blooming this time of year and so are our emerging writers! Looking for some Spring Writing Activities that are just right for your Kindergarten (& even first grade) writers? Read on for 3 writing ideas you can use in your classroom this spring.
Label it! Spring Writing
Labeling a picture might seem like an activity more suited for the beginning of the year, but look again! I used these labeling a picture printables in my writing center all year long! They make great prompts for student writing and can be differentiated for all levels. Simply add writing paper and students can use the pictures and vocabulary as a prompt for informational or story writing. I also found they were very popular with my reluctant writers and provided helpful scaffolds for them to begin writing with more independence.

Spring Class Books
I am a huge fan of class books for so many reasons! If you aren’t familiar with class or collaborative books they are simply a book that each student in your class contributes a page to. When I first started using them I thought of them as primarily a writing activity but to my surprise….. my students also read them over and over! What a great way to make your students feel like real writers.
By this time of year my students had made enough class books that I was able to add it as an independent activity to our literacy stations. I also provided vocabulary cards and differentiated pages for the students to choose from.ย Students could pick a simple fill in the blank page or try a more open ended writing page.

Spring Write the Room
Write the Room is great way to get up, move around and get exposed to lots of spring vocabulary! Don’t stop there though… make sure your students are using those words in their writing. This write the room set has vocabulary cards, recording pages and writing pages too! This makes a great literacy or writing center activity.
