Looking for some spring themed math activities for your kindergarten or first grade students? Believe me… I’m always happy when it’s time to switch out all the winter related activities! Here are 3 spring math activities to help clear away the winter blues and brighten up your math lessons and centers.
Adding holiday or seasonal themes to your math activities make them more engaging and relevant to your students. Here are 3 fun math resources with a spring theme I used in my classroom.
Pocket Chart Game
This pocket chart game is so simple but my kiddos always loved it! Read the little poem at the top and ask a student to identify a number. Call them up to peek and see if they found the hidden spring object. Play until the hidden object is found and then play again! Believe me… they always want to! This makes a great whole group or circle time activity but by this time of year my students also loved to play it independently during math centers.
This set includes numerals to 20 and ten frames 1-20 (alphabet & sight words too). The cards are editable so you can switch up the numbers, add number words or even simple addition & subtraction problems too!

Number Puzzles
This is activity was a constant in my math centers all year long! I just switched up the puzzles with the seasons and holidays. This spring set has 12 puzzles and focuses on the numbers 1-20. By this time of year we were ready for some bigger numbers but that isn’t a problem because all my number puzzles are editable. The puzzles can easily be edited for larger numbers, skip counting or counting backwards. Whatever practice your students need now!
The puzzles can be laminated and used year after year or simply printed (black & white copies) for a cut and paste activity. Want your students to practice printing the numbers too? Add in the recording page.

Math Matches
This was another math activity that I used all year long. These would also be great for math centers but I used them as a fast finisher activity. All ten sets of matching cards fit in a small tub and my early finishers could pick any set and start matching! This set is for numbers to 20 and includes a ton of skills: number words, base ten, ten frames, tally marks, addition, subtraction, shapes and more! My students loved working with a partner to match up the cards and reinforce all their number sense skills.

These were 3 three math activities I used throughout the year that my students never tired of. Simply change out the themes throughout the year. Adjusting the level and topics make them engaging and relevant all year long! Try one of them out in your classroom!
