Looking for word searches that aren’t too hard for your younger learners? This free set is a great way to introduce word searches and practice number and color words!
I wanted to make some word searches that were easy enough for my kindergarten and first grade students but were still a great learning experience! First thing I did was make sure none of the words were diagonal, backwards or overlapped. This makes them easier to find…. but also reinforces the correct spelling and letter order of the words. For emergent readers I thought this was really important!
In order to further practice the words I added shape word boxes. This requires students to focus on each word, the number of letters and shape in order to print them in the correct spot. I also added space for students to use one of the words in a sentence. I included 2 versions to differentiate this task: with or without a sentence starter.
Number and color words are often some of the first sight words introduced to students. This set includes 2 word searches for the numbers 1-10…
…and 2 color word searches too! TIP: Have students color each word the matching color to further reinforce each color word.
