These rhyming clip cards are a great way for students to practice this important pre-reading skill. Some of your students will be able to identify and make rhymes easily… but others will need lots of practice to hear the sounds and patterns in words. Keep reading for a fun free way to practice those rhyming words!
This resource includes 2 sets of rhyming clip cards. Clip cards make a great independent activity that can easily be added to your literacy centers. They have the added bonus of some extra fine motor practice! Read more about using clip cards in your classroom here.
Do they Rhyme?
In this set of clip cards students will identify rhyming pairs. Students will say the name of the two pictures and decide if they rhyme. This also works great for a small group activity with the teacher naming the pictures and students clipping to show their understanding.
Rhyming Words Clip Cards
This set has the student naming the large picture on the top of the card and then identifying the rhyming picture below. Rhyming and phonological awareness is all about listening and hearing the sounds in a word. However, this set does also have the word of the main picture included for those students who are ready to starting to make those letter sound connections.
Easy to Prep and Store.
On top of being great independent or small group rhyming practice… they won’t be a ton of work for you! The clip cards need to be printed and laminated and you will need to gather some clothespins (read here for some other fun alternatives). That’s about it.
They also fit nicely in a task box for easy storage. I have included both a label and an instruction card for each set. This makes them easy to store and find when you need them!
