Beginning sounds and bubble gum? It sounds fun…but is also important! Our students need a strong foundation in letter names and letter sounds. This free resource focuses on consonant letters and their most common sound. Give your students some extra practice with beginning sounds worksheets, a literacy center activity and some bubble gum added in… just for fun!
Letter and Picture Match
Add this matching activity to your Literacy Centers. It consists of a beginning sound matching mat (bubble gum machine) and letter and picture cards. Students choose a letter card and then match the three pictures with the same beginning sound.
Easy to store and keep organized! All the letter and pictures cards fit nicely in a small snack container.
TIPS
- If all the cards at once would be overwhelming for your students… just add a few letters and pictures at a time.
- Take the time to review the names and meaning of the pictures included in the activity first. This helps students focus on the sounds instead figuring out what each picture is. It also helps develop vocabulary. An important part of becoming a good reader.
Beginning Sounds Worksheets
Practicing the same skill in different ways keeps it interesting and helps solidify the skill. Give your students more opportunities to practice beginning sounds with a variety of print and go activities.
