There are so many fun seasonal things to write about in the fall! But finding writing activities that our beginning writers are able to do with some independence can be hard to find. Here are 3 fall writing activities that are just write for kindergarten and first grade!
Label it! Fall
Labeling a picture is a great writing activity for the beginning of the year! Emergent writers naturally share their stories and ideas using pictures and then begin to print letters and sounds to represent the objects in their drawings. These are some of the first writing lessons that I teach my students!
Students begin to share their own personal stories in their journals or writing notebook using pictures and add letters or words to give more information. By the time fall begins it is the perfect time to introduce labeling a picture writing pages. These labeling pages have a variety of engaging fall themes and allow students to practice their new skills and grow.
These labeling writing pages also scaffold students to begin writing sentences. Using the picture and the words that they have added…they can begin to print a simple sentence on the lines below.
This set is filled with 25 fall themed pages. Each page has 4 different differentiated versions and word cards are also included.

Fall Class Books
Class Books are a great activity to make your students feel like real writers! If you aren’t familiar with class or collaborative books they are simply a book that each student in your class contributes a page to. The pages are bound and made into a book that can be included in your class library. It is so exciting for students to read a book from the library that they co-authored!
These Fall Class Books have differentiated pages and simple fill in the blank options that are perfect for the beginning of the year. This set includes 10 Class Books with fall seasonal and holiday themes. This makes another great writing or literacy center addition with differentiated versions for writers to grow. Using the word cards makes them accessible for all your students!

Fall Write the Room
Give your students the seasonal vocabulary they will need for all their fall writing with Write the Room activities. Display the word cards around the class and your students will move around the room and print the words on their recording page.
There are so many reasons to love this activity! Students are up and moving around. They learn new seasonal vocabulary in a fun way. The photographs make words/concepts concrete. They are making connections between sound and letters. They practice printing letters and words. Plus this set has a bunch of follow up activities to extend skills and get your kiddos writing when they are done.

Writing about personal experiences is the best place for our writers to begin. So while leaves are changing colors and apples are being picked… fall is a great topic for making those personal connections and writing about it!
