Are you looking for fun and effective activities to help your kindergarten or 1st grade students practice reading and writing CVC words? Look no further! Here are 5 engaging CVC word activities that your students will love.
What’s the deal with CVC Words?
CVC words are three letter words with a consonant-vowel-consonant pattern. Each letter in a CVC word represents a sound (no tricky digraphs or silent letters). If your students have learned the most common consonant letter sounds and the short vowel sounds, they are ready to start working with CVC words. By focusing on the sounds of individual letters and learning how to blend them together (or take them apart), children can begin to read and write simple CVC words.
Blending and segmenting sounds to read and write words takes work. CVC words are a great place to gain confidence with these skills. In addition to direct instruction, students need a chance to practice! Here are 5 fun and engaging CVC word activities you can add to your morning tubs, literacy centers and more!
